A colonoscopy is a medical procedure used to examine the large intestine (colon) and rectum. The test is performed using a long, flexible tube called a colonoscope. The colonoscope has a small camera at its tip, which allows the doctor to see the inside of the colon.
A colonoscope may also be used to screen for colorectal cancer or to diagnose and treat other conditions of the colon and rectum, such as inflammatory bowel disease. During a colonoscopy, the doctor may take biopsies (tissue samples) or remove polyps (abnormal growths). The procedure usually takes 30 to 60 minutes and is performed under sedation.
Hormone replacement therapy, also known as HRT, is a treatment option for women experiencing symptoms of menopause. Menopause is caused by a decline in estrogen levels, which can lead to hot flashes, vaginal dryness, and mood swings, among other symptoms. HRT replaces the estrogen your body is no longer producing, relieving these symptoms.
There are many different ways to administer HRT. One of the most popular methods involves Biote subcutaneous implantable pellets. After a brief, painless in-office injection of the pellets – which are smaller than a grain of rice – a continuous stream of the hormones you need will be released for up to 6 months! This method is particularly helpful for many patients because there is nothing to remember to do on a daily basis, as is the case with oral or topical HRT methods.
In addition to relieving menopausal symptoms, HRT can also help to prevent osteoporosis and heart disease.
Contraception is the use of artificial methods or other techniques to prevent pregnancy. Although most contraceptive methods are designed for women, there are also many contraceptive methods for men. Many different types of contraception are available, including birth control pills, intrauterine devices (IUDs), condoms, diaphragms, and spermicides.
Each method has its own perks and faults, so it is crucial to choose the right one for you. You should also remember that no method of contraception is 100% effective, so it is essential to use additional methods of protection, such as condoms, if you are sexually active.
A yeast infection is a common condition caused by the overgrowth of candida yeast. Symptoms can vary depending on the person, but often include itchiness, burning, and redness in the affected area. Yeast infections are often treated with antifungal medications, which can be taken orally or applied directly to the affected area.
Testing is generally done with a swab of the affected area, and treatment typically lasts for 7 to 14 days. Most yeast infections clear up with proper treatment within a week or two. However, some women may experience recurring infections. If this happens, Dr. Azinge can help you identify the underlying cause and develop a plan to prevent future infections.
Bone density screening is a test that measures how strong your bones are. It’s also known as a bone mass measurement test or dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA). The test is used to determine if you have osteoporosis, a disease that causes bones to become weak and fragile. Bone density screening is quick, painless, and easy to get. It usually only takes about 15 minutes. The test is usually done on your lower spine and hip because these bones are most likely to break if you have osteoporosis. The test results will show the presence and severity of osteoarthritis.
If you have osteoporosis, Dr. Azinge will work with you to devise a treatment plan. This may include lifestyle changes, such as getting more exercise, eating a healthy diet, and medications. Treatment can help prevent fractures and improve your quality of life.
